Guard Booth and Cashiers Booth Security,
Bullet resistance and containment issues.

We can add these important security issues to
your building, but it isn't inexpensive.

Testing And Spec Standards can be found at ASTM and ANSI in these documents:

  1. ANSI Z97.1 - Safety and Performance Specifications and Methods of Test for Safety Glazing in Buildings
  2. ASTM D256 - Standard Test Methods for Impact Resistance of Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials
  3. ASTM D638 - Standard Test Methods for Tensile Properties of Plastics
  4. ASTM D790 - Standard Test Methods for Flexuarl Properties of Un-reinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials
  5. ASTM D792 - Standard Test Methods for Specific Gravity (Relative Density) and Density of Plastics by Displacement
  6. ASTM D1929 - Standard Test Methods for Security Glazing Materials and Systems.

Laminated Glazing is a sandwiched material of two or more products with different characteristics like impact, scratch resistance, tint, and so on.  It is made for two reasons:

Containment Glazing - Making breaking in difficult or nearly impossible.  Hammers and sledges might just scratch or dent the material.  And some bullet calibers are known to be stopped at this level, including Level A ballistics with .38 Special and Level B ballistics with 9mm when a 3 layer composite is used.

  1. Level II Forced entry and Level A Ballistics for .38 Special is a 2-ply composite of .390" thick and weights 2.4 lbs./sq. ft.
  2. Level III Forced Entry and Level A Ballistics for .38 Special is a 3-ply composite of .530" thick and weighs 3.3 lbs./sq. ft
  3. Level IV Forced Entry and Level B Ballistics for .38 and 9mm is a 3-ply composite of .760" thick and weighs 4.9 lbs./sq.ft.

Impact or Bullet Resistance

  1. Level A & B ballistics can be addressed with Containment Glazing.
  2. Level 1 MPSA .38 super auto and 9mm are covered with Bullet Resistant Glazing which is a 3 layer composite about 3/4" thick and weighs about 5 pounds per sq. foot.
  3. Level II HPSA for .357 magnum calibers is nearly 1" thick and is a 4 layer composite and weighs 6.5 lbs./sq. ft.
  4. Level III SPSA .44 magnum is a 4 ply composite at about 1.5" thick and weighs 8.1 lbs. sq. ft.

Wall and Drawer Bullet resistance

This is another subject yet.  Bullet resistant windows don't come as sliders or openable (Why would they?) So what do you do to commit a transaction...you use a push out drawer.  But there are different levels of bullet resistance drawers and fascades.  Needless to say a completely bullet resistant building is not cheap.
